School’s Comments: For 175 years, Saint Vincent College has been steadfast in its mission to provide students with an education that prepares them for success in their careers and to lead lives of purpose and meaning by serving the communities and the world in which they — and we — live. At the heart of a liberal arts and sciences education is the dialogue between student and teacher; learner and scholar; among learners who are discerning the wisdom and knowledge of their discipline and of life; and an emphasis on how to think, not what to think. In his holy Rule, St. Benedict prioritizes hospitality. When the person is welcomed with hospitality, the stranger becomes a friend. At Saint Vincent, our rigorous majors and challenging core engage our students with topics and ideas with which they may be unfamiliar. The “hospitality of the mind” encourages students to entertain new ideas in this academic community and make these ideas friends.

Embracing this concept of hospitality of the mind uniquely prepares graduates for the world after college where a combination of technical and people skills is required. Regardless of career, there will always be a need for strong analytical and research skills, the ability to distill and communicate new information, and the willingness to embrace innovation and technology that moves the world forward. This also teaches all of us to learn more about that which we do not know so that we may become stronger friends, colleagues, family members and contributors to our world. In 1854, our founder, Boniface Wimmer, wrote: “To those who knock, the door is opened.” We continue to move forward in this manner. When we are together to live, learn, worship, play, compete and grow, our community thrives. We invite our students to seize this opportunity for transformation — academic, spiritual and/or social — and appreciate the role of a liberal arts education with lifelong value.

President’s Oath: The president is a Benedictine priest.

Dorms: Students are segregated by floor or wing requiring card access, and visitation policies are strictly enforced.
