Our Glorious Multicultural Adventure in Afghanistan
A document released by WikiLeaks described efforts by high-ranking Afghan officials to quash reports of police officers and other Afghans arrested for “purchasing a service from a child.”
The leaked diplomatic cable quoted former Minister of the Interior Hanif Atmar’s concern that publicity about the arrests, which involved the hiring of “dancing boys,” would “endanger lives.”
The author of the diplomatic cable fretted that the case would be “blown out of proportion, an outcome that would not be good for either the U.S. or Afghanistan.”
The vast gulf between U.S. and Afghan attitudes about homosexuality and pedophilia has generated concern among U.S. advisers in Afghanistan since the American presence there began to expand.
Back here in what remains of Christian civilization, there are still left a few agreed-upon moral principles by which you can evaluate certain acts as intrinsically evil without a lot of chin-pulling about how “morally different” agents need to be cut a lot of slack for their non-Western cultural perspectives etc. blah blah. Pervert priest rapes a kid? Put him in jail and throw away the key. The bishops who enabled and protected this filth can’t appeal to some hidden multicultural imperative in the Catholic tradition which somehow justifies this. Everyone is agreed. Raping kids is evil. Period. Full stop.
But our ingenious post-Christian ruling classes, confronted with the same thing in our ongoing adventure to prop up a failed narcostate and save it through the miraculous healing power of democratic capitalism at the point of a gun have other options than our bishops did. They can undertake “studies” and blather about “The vast gulf between U.S. and Afghan attitudes about homosexuality and pedophilia”—as though the problem is our narrow-minded and provincial American attitudes toward this noble institution of our brave Afghani allies. Caught (literally) with their pants down by Wikileaks in the process of covering up the traffic in and rape of little boys (with the help of our tax dollars funding the whole process courtesy of defense contractors who did the same thing in Bosnia) our ruling classes just open a big ol’ can of Multiculturalism and fill the air with fog. Who are we to impose our Western values on these people? Or, as one of the leaked cables put it:
“To dismiss the existence of this dynamic out of desire to avoid Western discomfort is to risk failing to comprehend an essential social force underlying Pashtun culture which can potentially effect the success” of the U.S. effort there, Cardinalli wrote in the report.
Translation: Westerners discomfited by the screams of little boys being raped by our glorious allies should not ask and should not tell. It will disrupt the mission of bringing our noble post-Christian civilization to Afghanistan—and there is that trillion dollars of lithium to think about too. No wonder, despite the lies of the Obama Administration, our Sec’y of Defense has made it clear we are “not ever leaving Afghanistan at all”. You think a few raped kids are going to affect that? You need to broaden your perspective and see that our narrow Western culture with its hangups about gay rape of children has to grow to embrace “global values”. Sure, anger about this is useful for taking down the Church, but don’t take it *that* seriously. We have our Empire to think about!
As I have said for many years: the day is coming when the Church will be condemned by our elites, not for sinfully permitting pedophilia in some of its clergy, but for condemning it in its doctrine.
