'At a time when Congress is tempted to reduce even vitally important programs that serve the poorest and neediest people here and abroad, the moral wrong of expanding subsidies for direct violations of human life and dignity is especially egregious,' Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, chairman of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities for the U.S. bishops’ conference, said in a Nov. 14 letter to senators.
'God, not government, is the only sure guarantee of human rights and the blessings of our liberty. We need to live as if we believe that,' the bishop said at a recent pro-life dinner.
The youngest of eight was born with Trisomy 18, which is similar to Down syndrome. Says her father: 'She's got a great, beautiful spirit. And we can learn a lot from that.'

Bill passed the House last week by a vote of 251-172. Bishops' spokeswoman: 'By passing the Protect Life Act, the House has taken an important step toward authentic health-care reform that respects the dignity of all, from conception onward.'
The U.S. bishops and other pro-life groups support the bill that would require abortion providers to make an unborn child’s heartbeat visible and audible to its mother in order for her to give her informed consent for an abortion.
