He also said: 'Let us place in his hands the tragedies of this world, and let us also offer him our hopes for a brighter future.'
Benedict wrote: "The 'door of faith' is always open for us, ushering us into the life of communion with God and offering entry into his Church. He hopes this year will bring a rediscovery and renewal of faith within the Church and world.
