In "A Catholic View: Why Marriage Matters," on June 18, at WashingtonPost.com, Tim Roder, the associate director for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Secretariat of Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth, wrote about the beauty of marriage:

"Besides ensuring a child’s relationship to his or her mom and dad, marriage is the most fundamental and foundational relationship in society. When marriage is respected as the only institution that can unite a man and woman with each other and to any child who comes from their union, we all benefit."

A lovely photo of a young couple praying before their wedding that has been circulating on news sites and social media attests to the beauty of marriage, too. As the bride wrote at her blog, The Power of Prayer:

"My husband prayed that God would bless our marriage — that, through thick or thin, together we would never lose hope in one another; that, instead of focusing on each other’s imperfections, we would always rely on Christ’s perfection."
