A new SC Johnson survey shows that 90% of parents spend as much as 20 hours per week in a car with children under 18. The close quarters would seem a good time for praying, talking and singing together β but 88% of car-bound kids zone out on private music, 60% eat, 47% play video games, 27% watch DVDs and 23% talk to their friends via cell phone or text messaging. The researchers suggest that parents re-think car time, seeing it as βan opportunity to create a stress-free family atmosphere and strengthen the family bond.β Presumably, that would start with banning electronic devices.
