Chaldean Nuns Stabbed to Death in Iraq

According to the Associated Press, two sisters, both Chaldean Catholic nuns, were stabbed to death in their Kirkuk home.

Fawzeiyah Naoum, 85, and her 79-year-old sister, Margaret, were stabbed multiple times by intruders who raided their home March 26 near the Cathedral of the Virgin in Kirkuk. Police said they lived alone and there was no sign of a robbery.

Group Petitions the Vatican to Stop Speeding Priest

Father Antonio Rodrigues’ alleged need for speed has resulted in the Portuguese Association of Motorist Citizens’ asking the Vatican to formally tell the priest to “resist the temptations of speed,” reported Reuters.
Father Rodrigues, who winds his 150-horsepower Ford Fiesta 2000 ST through Portugal’s streets at 130 mph, told the Portguese daily Correio de Manha, “I am no speed freak. I have a car that I like, but I drive with prudence.”

Utilitarianism’s Torch Bearer To Address Polish Catholics

Princeton professor Peter Singer, one of the world’s foremost proponents of euthanasia and infanticide, will be a guest at the seventh annual gathering of Catholic associations and organizations in Gniezno, Poland, the Australian website CathNews reported.

“We invited Singer not so that he could propagate his views, but so that we may engage him in public discussion,” Marcin Przeciszewski, spokesman for the Polish Catholic Information Agency, said.

According to Polish moral theologian Father Pawel Bortkiewicz, “Singer is the icon of the dark night in bioethics.  … While I am angered by his views, I would willingly discuss them with him.”

Singer will take part in a discussion entitled “Bioethics: Opportunities and Threats.”
