Why Do Catholics ...?

by The Editors, Register Correspondent Friday, May 25, 2012 3:39 PM Comment

Pope John XXII (1316-1334) proclaimed Trinity Sunday to be celebrated the Sunday after Pentecost, according to The Catholic Encyclopedia: Since it was after the first great Pentecost that the Trinitarian doctrine was proclaimed, the timing is apropos.

Corpus Christi was first instituted by Pope Urban IV in 1264 to celebrate the holy Eucharist. It follows Trinity Sunday: This year, Trinity Sunday is celebrated June 3 and Corpus Christi is June 10.

Have you always wondered about some aspect of the faith? Or maybe you’d like to know some trivia about Pope Benedict. If you do, email us your question at editor@ewtn.com and look for the answer in an upcoming issue.
