Why Do Catholics ... ?

What’s the status of U.S. sainthood causes?

by The Editors, Register Correspondent Friday, Sep 02, 2011 6:13 PM Comments (1)

We recently reported about this online at NCRegister.com, highlighting the causes of Father Emil Kapaun, a Korean War hero, and Father Patrick Peyton, who started Family Theater Productions in Hollywood and coined the phrase “The family that prays together, stays together,” among others. Search “Catholic Heroes for Today” at NCRegister.com to read more.

This news is edifying for the faithful.

As the Catechism states, “By canonizing some of the faithful, i.e., by solemnly proclaiming that they practiced heroic virtue and lived in fidelity to God’s grace, the Church recognizes the power of the Spirit of holiness within her and sustains the hope of believers by proposing the saints to them as models and intercessors. ‘The saints have always been the source and origin of renewal in the most difficult moments in the Church’s history.’ Indeed, ‘holiness is the hidden source and infallible measure of her apostolic activity and missionary zeal’” (828).

Have you always wondered about some aspect of the faith?

Or maybe you’re curious about Pope Benedict trivia.

Email us your question at editor@ewtn.com, and look for the answer in an upcoming issue.
