At the end of each of our online articles is a brief description of the newspaper.
“Insightful. Informative. Uncompromisingly faithful,” it says. “The National Catholic Register is more than a newspaper. It’s a cause.”
I like that description. Journalists like to cloak themselves in the mantle of objectivity and pretend their paper doesn’t have a point of view. The Register strives to tell the truth with accuracy and fairness, and that entails being forthright about our point of view.
That allows us to be a force for the New Evangelization. Our own abilities have very little to do with it. The truth carries its own power, and equipping our readers to engage the secular culture is our “cause.”
