Familyland TV

Learning about basic science can be fun, as the children in this show prove with their entertaining as well as practical experiments. Airs Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m., Fridays at 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m.


SUNDAY, JULY 23

Crossed Hearts in Concert
Familyland TV, 3:30 p.m.

Husband-and-wife team David and Teresa Smith say the music in their hour-long concert “gets you excited about your Catholic faith and about living for Jesus.”


WEDNESDAY, JULY 26

The Andrea Doria
History Channel, PBS

On July 25, 1956, the liners Stockholm and Andrea Doria collided off the East Coast. The Andrea Doria sank 11 hours later. At noon and 6 p.m. on the History Channel, Deep Sea Detectives probes the accident. At 8 p.m. on PBS, Secrets of the Dead concludes that Andrea Doria Captain Piero Calamai was unfairly blamed.


FRIDAY, JULY 28

The World Over
EWTN, 8 p.m.

Guest Steven Mosher, president of the Population Research Institute in Front Royal, Va., discusses the Chinese communists’ brutal population control and persecution of religion. The institute describes itself as “a pro-life educational organization dedicated to protecting and defending human life, ending human rights abuses committed in the name of family planning, and dispelling the myth of overpopulation.”


MONDAY, JULY 31

Classroom: America’s Castles — The Confederacy
A&E, 7 a.m.

This show escorts us to the Waverly Mansion in West Point, Miss., and the White House of the Confederacy, a mansion built in 1818 in Richmond, Va., that during the Civil War was home to Confederate President Jefferson Davis and his family.


TUESDAY, AUG. 1

NOVA: This Old Pyramid
PBS, 8 p.m.

By the Great Pyramid of Giza, Egyptologist Mark Lehner and stonemason Roger Hopkins construct a pyramid to test “How did they do that?” theories. Re-air from 1992.


WEDNESDAY, AUG. 2

Live from Lincoln Center:
Mostly Mozart Festival 2006

PBS, 8 p.m.

Louis Langree conducts the festival’s orchestra. The 90-minute performance includes Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 26, with soloist Garrick Ohlsson, and Mozart’s Mass in C major, with, as guests, the Concert Chorale of New York, soprano Hei-Kyung Hong, mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly, tenor Matthew Polenzani and bass John Relyea.


THURSDAY, AUG. 3

Life on the Rock
EWTN, 8 p.m.

Guest Chris Ledyard is the athletic director at the Franciscan University of Steubenville. His topic tonight: “Catholic College Athletics.”
