Millions of children play Little League baseball each summer in the United States and around the globe. This 60th-annual championship game in South Williamsport, Pa., pits the top U.S. team of 11- and 12-year-olds against the international winner.

Kate Bosworth, Elizabeth Duff, Jeff Fahey, and Chris and Matt McCoy star in this uplifting 2003 fictional film in which the Docherty family is put to the test by adversity.

‘Jewels’ from the Paris Opera Ballet

PBS, 10 p.m.

Choreographer George Balanchine’s plotless three-act ballet incorporates music by Faure, Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky and costumes and sets by Christian Lacroix.

Classroom: Ellis Island

History Channel, 6 a.m.

“Where liberty dwells, there is my country” well describes the motivation of the millions who entered the United States legally between 1892 and 1954 through Ellis Island in New York Harbor. Annie Moore, 15, and her little brothers Anthony and Philip, from County Cork, Ireland, were the first arrivals, on Jan. 1, 1892.

P.O.V.: Waging a Living

Filmed over a three-year span, this 90-minute documentary follows four breadwinners in the Northeast and California as they work hard but earn low wages and have to struggle to make ends meet for their families. Advisory: TV-PG.

Trapped in the Towers:

The Elevators of 9/11

This 9/11 fifth-anniversary special premiere uses first-person accounts, actual footage and computer animation to retell the stories of the several dozen people who narrowly escaped from seven elevators during the attacks on the World Trade Center.

College Football:

Notre Dame

at Georgia Tech

ABC, 8 p.m., live

Not every fan of college football realizes that “Notre Dame” means “Our Lady” in French. The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame open their second season under Coach Charlie Weis with high hopes, taking on the Rambling Wreck of Georgia Tech in Atlanta. This game inaugurates a new “ESPN on ABC” series, Saturday Night Football.
