Landscape Solutions:

Attracting Birds

Home & Garden TV,

10:30 a.m.

Landscape designer Patricia Thernell and Larry Morris of Wild Birds Unlimited transform a back yard into a mecca for birds — and for birdwatchers. Their tools of the trade include a variety of trees, flowers, feeders, bird munchies and even a birdbath-fountain.

Suffering and

the Love of God

EWTN, 6 p.m.

TUESDAY, MARCH 1

Civil War Journal: Zouaves!

History Channel, 7 a.m.

Top 5: Official State Foods

Food Network, 12 noon

The 50 state governments have official flowers, birds and animals, so why not foods, too? See if you can guess which states have appropriated chili, chocolate chip cookies, orange juice, pecans and, yes, popcorn, as their very own favorites.

SATURDAY, MARCH 5

Back to the Blueprint:

Log Home

Home & Garden TV, 2 p.m.

Other than the tepee, what structure is more American than the log cabin? In this show, “Blueprint” host Marty Dunham joins Mark Pratt and his Antique Logs Unlimited team in Missouri as they carefully take apart a log cabin from the 1840s and rebuild it on a new site. They illustrate the logs’ strength, the log-notching system and how to make and then apply the chinking between the logs.

SATURDAY, MARCH 5

Inside This Old House

A&E, 10 a.m.

Host Kevin O’Connor and master carpenter Norm Abram reprise the Dorchester project of 1980 – a renovation of a Victorian house from 1860. They also inspect the house to see how it is holding up a quarter-century later.

Dan Engler writes from

Santa Barbara, California.
