As the Register reported last month, a study by the U.S. bishops showed that 78% of men recently ordained were initially invited by a priest to consider the priesthood. Meanwhile, as the Register has shown in the past, there’s plenty of anecdotal evidence pointing to the importance of mom and dad. (See “Focus on the Vocation-Friendly Family,” Aug. 27-Sept. 2, 2006.) As Pope Benedict XVI put it last year: “The example of holy parents is the first condition favorable for the flowering of priestly and religious vocations.”
