PBS Japanese-American Ben Kuroki, 90, served in World War II as a gunner on B-24 bombers in North Africa and Europe and on B-29s over Japan. In between his 58 aerial missions, he addressed San Francisco’s Commonwealth Club in 1943 to denounce the racism behind the internment of West Coast Japanese-Americans and he encouraged internees to cooperate with the military draft.
