HISTORY CHANNEL The ocean liner Britannic, serving as a British hospital ship in World War I, sank in the Aegean Sea on Nov. 21, 1916, struck by a German mine or torpedo. The Britannic sank in just 55 minutes even though its builders had given it extra safety features after its sister ship Titanic sank in 1912. Advisory: TV-PG.

TUESDAY, 8 p.m.

St. Gerard Majella

FAMILYLAND TV This special tells of the life, holiness and intercession of St. Gerard Majella (1726-1755), whom millions love and revere as “The Mothers’ Saint.”

TUESDAY, 8 p.m.

Nova: Ghost in Your Genes

PBS Scientists in the disputed field of epigenetics believe that genes do not cause all inherited traits. Their hypothesis is that environmental influences such as nutrition, behaviors and stresses can subtly alter DNA without affecting genes’ overall composition, and that these changes, or chemical “switches,” can be passed along to our children and grandchildren.

WEDNESDAY, 8 p.m.

The Greatest Story Ever Told

TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES Worth watching every time it airs, this large-scale and reverent 1965 retelling of the Gospels was directed by George Stevens and is based on the book of the same title by Catholic author Fulton Oursler. Max von Sydow portrays Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 9 p.m.

Lost Worlds: Stalin’s Supercity

HISTORY CHANNEL The megalomaniacal communist dictator Joseph Stalin (1878-1953) imprisoned, tortured and murdered tens of millions of people during his years of totalitarian misrule in the Soviet Union. Computer graphics and historians’ expertise combine to re-create the physical appearance of the USSR under Stalin’s tyranny and terror. Re-airs 3 p.m. Friday. Advisory: TV-PG.

FRIDAY, 5:30 p.m.

Saints of Auriesville

EWTN Love of Christ and zeal for the souls of the Mohawks in New York state in the mid-17th century led the heroic French Jesuits today known as the North American Martyrs to give their lives for the Faith after unspeakable tortures.

SATURDAY, 8 p.m.

Night Train to Munich

FAMILYLAND TV Sir Carol Reed directed this 1940 World War II spy thriller, in which British secret agent Gus Bennett (Rex Harrison) impersonates a member of the German high command in a bid to rescue inventor Axel Bomasch (James Harcourt) and his daughter Anna (Margaret Lockwood), whom the Nazis have kidnapped.
