Lost Worlds: Taj Mahal

DISCOVERY CHANNEL India’s fifth Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan (1592-1666), used 20,000 workers and 1,000 elephants to construct the Taj Mahal and surrounding buildings in the city of Agra as a mausoleum for his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, after she died in 1631. In this program, “historical detectives” investigate the architecture, engineering and extent of the original Taj Mahal complex. Advisory: TV-PG.

Celtic Woman: A Christmas Celebration

PBS Many PBS stations (check your local listings) kick off their December pledge drive with this special from Dublin by the Irish singing group Celtic Woman. Members Orla, Mairead, Meav, Lisa and Chloe perform the hymns “O Holy Night” and “Little Drummer Boy,” standards such as “White Christmas” and new pieces such as “Christmas Pipes.”
