SUNDAY, 8 p.m., live

National Memorial Day Concert

PBS Actors Joe Mantegna and Gary Sinise will co-host this year’s concert before 300,000 people outside the U.S. Capitol. Dramatic readings and filmed segments on Arlington National Cemetery and our troops wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan will supplement the patriotic pieces of the National Symphony Orchestra, U.S. service chorales and guests.


SUNDAY, 9:30 p.m.

Air Group 16: We Came to Remember

PBS At the dedication of the National World War II Memorial on the Mall in Washington, D.C., in 2004, survivors of Air Group 16, the three-man crews of the Grumman TBF Avenger torpedo bombers on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Lexington, held their last reunion.


MONDAY, 5:30 p.m.

Frontline Families: Captain and Mrs. Guy Gruters, Vietnam

EWTN Capt. Guy Gruters flew more than 400 combat missions over North Vietnam in his F-100 Super Sabre jet, was shot down twice and was unbroken by five years of torture as a prisoner of war. He credits his Catholic faith, people’s prayers for him, and his love of country, fellow servicemen and his wife Sandy and their seven children.


TUESDAY, 9 p.m.

The Universe: Secrets of the Sun

HISTORY CHANNEL Only now are scientists starting to comprehend the mysteries of the sun. Advisory: TV-PG.


TUESDAY-FRIDAY, 3 a.m.

Miracles in Russia

EWTN These four half-hour episodes recount Our Lady of Fatima’s predictions about Soviet Russia, Her request for prayers for Russia’s conversion and the progress of the Church in Russia since the fall of the USSR in 1990-1991.


WEDNESDAY, 10 p.m.

Cool Stuff: How It Works

DISCOVERY CHANNEL Premiering tonight, this series will show us the inner workings of “cool stuff” such as personal jet packs, fire suits that can take 2,000 degrees and airplanes that convert into helicopters on the fly.


THURSDAY, live

The 2007 Scripps National Spelling Bee

ESPN, ABC Most of the 286 regional winners in this contest are eighth and seventh graders, but two are fourth graders! At 10 a.m., ESPN televises the semifinals and at 8 p.m., ABC the finals.


FRIDAY, 7 p.m.

If Walls Could Talk

HOME & GARDEN TV In this series, homeowners make fascinating discoveries about their houses. Tonight’s dwellings include an 1804 Federal-style house and a Palm Beach mansion.
