International Builders’ Show 2008

Home & Garden TV The many facets of taking care of your family include maintaining your home. More than 92,000 builders and 1,900 exhibitors attended the annual convention of the National Association of Homebuilders this past February, and Steve Watson and Kristin Wells report on advances in materials, styles and techniques.

The Journey Home

EWTN Marcus Grodi’s guest, Tom Cabeen, was a Jehovah’s Witness pioneer and elder who noticed contradictions between that sect’s claims and the Bible. Expelled from the Witnesses, he and his wife Gloria eventually entered the Catholic Church in 2006.

Vita Consecrata (Consecrated Life)

Familyland TV “To you, Virgin of the Visitation, do we entrust them [consecrated persons], that they may go forth to meet human needs, to bring help, but above all to bring Jesus,” Pope John Paul II wrote in his 1996 apostolic exhortation, Vita Consecrata (The Consecrated Life and Its Mission in the Church and in the World). This weekly series analyzes the Pope’s thoughts and hopes about consecrated individuals and groups and their mission. Re-airs Saturdays, 4:30 a.m.


THURSDAY, 8 p.m., live

Life on the Rock

EWTN Guest Kerri Caviezel, speaking about “the Adoption Option,” tells how she and her husband Jim, who portrayed Jesus in the 2004 film, The Passion of the Christ, came to adopt two Chinese orphans, a boy and a girl who each had brain tumors. A former college basketball star who volunteers at a crisis pregnancy center and gives pro-life talks, she met Jim on a blind date and they married in 1997.


THURSDAY, 10 p.m.

Phoenix Mars Mission: Ashes to Ice

PBS The Phoenix Mars Lander took off in August 2007 and is to land on May 25, three days after this program airs. A project of the University of Arizona, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and other entities, the 800-pound probe will have about 90 days to search for ice and organic compounds in the Red Planet’s northern polar region.

SATURDAY, 9:45 p.m.

The Red Badge of Courage

Turner Classic Movies John Huston directed this patriotic 1951 version of Stephen Crane’s 1895 Civil War novel of the same title. World War II Medal of Honor recipient Audie Murphy stars as the young Union soldier who briefly slips away from battle but atones for that the next day by distinguishing himself in combat. TV-PG (war).
