House Hunters: First Home

HOME & GARDEN TV Families need homes and, in this episode, hostess Suzanne Whang helps Michael and Cathy Roddy, parents of Ellie, 8, and Jessica, 6, look for a home in Florida’s Ocoee-Winter Garden area. They seek a house that has office space, a big garage and a nice back yard for the kids and their doggies.


MONDAY, 7:30 a.m.

Hands on History: Cable Cars

HISTORY Cable cars made their debut in San Francisco on Aug. 2, 1873, and 40 of them still make their fabled way around the City by the Bay. Series host Ron Hazelton pilots a cable car, shows us the sights and supplies historical vignettes.


TUESDAY, 4:30 p.m.

My Little Angels

EWTN This fun puppet show presents solid Catholic truth in a happy package that’s just right for kids. Father Francis, Mother Superior and her Sisters and their students, puppets all, sing delightful songs about Jesus, Mary, the Eucharist, guardian angels and much more. EWTN carries other excellent kids’ shows such as Hi Lucy (loving God and the Catholic Faith), Big Al (Gospel lessons), My Catholic Family (parents tell kids about the saints) and Truth in the Heart (Dominican sisters teach catechism).

Pioneers of the Spirit: Ignatius Loyola

EWTN This film bio of Basque-born St. Ignatius Loyola (1491-1556) portrays his youth in the Spanish court, his soldierly career, his deep conversion after being wounded, his college studies, his asceticism, his holy companions such as fellow Basque St. Francis Xavier, his founding of the Society of Jesus, his zeal for souls, his service to the sick and outcast, his writing of the Spiritual Exercises and his founding and direction of the first Jesuit universities and missionary projects in Europe, India and the Orient.


FRIDAY, 12 noon

Paula’s Home Cooking

FOOD NETWORK Friendly hostess Paula Deen of Savannah, Georgia, whips up Southern favorites such as BBQ pork sandwiches, corn fritters, deviled eggs and Kentucky pie.


SATURDAY, 5 p.m.

The Samurai

HISTORY This two-hour special uses Japanese historical records, archival film and exhibitions by “present-day samurai” to explain the martial arts skills, self-discipline, self-sacrifice, rituals and a certain harshness that constitute the Bushido (code of the warrior). Advisory: TV-PG.
