SUNDAY, 8 p

SUNDAY, 8 p.m.

Tiger — Spy in the Jungle

ANIMAL PLANET Producer John Downer trained elephants in the Indian jungle to carry and set down remote-operated and motion-sensor cameras that can capture images of tigers from far closer up than humans could ever get. This new BBC One series, shot in Pench National Park in Madhya Pradesh state, shows us a tigress and the progress of her litter of four — from playful babyhood to adulthood. TV-G.

MONDAY, 8 a.m.

Mega Movers

HISTORY CHANNEL These three 60-minute episodes can only remind Catholic viewers of the dignity of labor. First, workers in Texas hoist a 475,000-pound oil field structure onto a barge to float it up the Mississippi. Next, ocean salvage teams raise ships that have sunk from the 16th to the 20th centuries. Then, crews move an airport’s fabric roof in Denver and an 800-ton airline terminal at New York’s JFK International Airport. Advisory: TV-PG.

TUESDAYS, 10 a.m.

The Gospel of St. Mark

FAMILYLAND TV Apostolate for Family Consecration co-founder Jerry Coniker and guest Cardinal Francis Arinze, the prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments since 2002, conduct an in-depth meditation on this Gospel. Also airs midnight, Mondays.

TUESDAY, 8 p.m.

Outlaws and Lawmen

MILITARY CHANNEL The first of two hour-long TV-G episodes, “Legacy of War” charts the crimes of the James and Younger brothers. The second, “Tall in the Saddle,” profiles Bat Masterson, Wyatt Earp and other lawmen of frontier Dodge City, Kan.

TUESDAY, 9 p.m., midnight

On Jupiter

SCIENCE CHANNEL This documentary chronicles scientific discoveries from the past quarter-century of space probes sent to the planet Jupiter.

THURSDAY, 3 a.m.

Vietnam — Gilded Cage

EWTN Despite its cynical propaganda claims to the contrary, the communist regime in Vietnam does persecute the Catholic Church as “a threat to socialist order.”

FRIDAY, 5:30 p.m.

Catholic Destinations

CATHOLICTV “I am the Immaculate Conception,” the Blessed Virgin told Bernadette Soubirous in Lourdes in 1858. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Mary’s visits there, host Kevin Nelson escorts us to Lourdes, a place of pilgrimage, cures and conversions.

SATURDAY, all day

Laurel and Hardy

TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES Starting at 5 a.m., enjoy a day of the hilarious short films and feature movies of the beloved 1930s comedy duo Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. Advisory: Avoid the uncharacteristic immodest dance scene in “Sons of the Desert.”

Dan Engler writes from
Santa Barbara, California.
