Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

ABC Host Ty Pennington, celeb Ashley Tisdale and local builders and volunteers build a new home for Chris and Niki Hampton in Green County, Mo. The Hamptons, who have two kids, took in their four nieces and nephews on an hour’s notice and hope to adopt them, but their house is tiny. A re-airing. Advisory: TV-PG.

Faith & Culture

EWTN Each week, Colleen Carroll Campbell, author and former speechwriter for President George W. Bush, discusses current issues and eternal truths with leading Catholics such as Father Tadeusz Pacholczyk, Michael Novak, Mother Agnes Mary Donovan of the Sisters of Life, Kathryn Lopez and Dinesh D’Souza. Re-airs 11pm Wednesdays.


MONDAYS, June 21 & 28, 9pm

History Detectives

PBS This series about objects that could be part of U.S. history kicks off a new season on June 21 with segments on America’s space program. On June 28, the topics are a Japanese soldier’s map from the Battle of Iwo Jima (Feb. 19-March 26, 1945), a cane tied to the Peace Democrats who opposed the Civil War and Lincoln’s suppression of civil liberties, and a Theremin, an electronic musical instrument from the 1920s.


TUESDAY, June 22, 8pm

Who Really Discovered America?

HISTORY This new two-hour documentary about early explorers builds replica ships, traces sailing routes, studies blood evidence, and analyzes artifacts as it probes discoverer candidates such as St. Brendan of Ireland, the prehistoric Solutreans, ancient Hebrews, Vikings, the Welsh, Chinese, Japanese and Polynesians.


WEDNESDAY, June 23, 9pm

Harp Dreams

PBS This 90-minute documentary accompanies six young harpists from around the world as they prepare for and take part in the 2007 USA International Harp Competition in Bloomington, Ind. They must master 13 pieces of classical music for the grueling 15-day event and play a solo piece and a concerto with an orchestra.


SATURDAY, June 26, 4pm

Explorer: Climbing

Redwood Giants

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNEL A National Geographic team studies California’s redwoods with aerial laser surveys and uses robotic cameras to make a composite photo of a 300-foot giant that has a 100-foot canopy.


MONDAY-TUESDAY, June 28-29

Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul

EWTN, CATHOLICTV At noon live on June 28, EWTN airs Pope Benedict’s vespers in Rome’s Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls; CatholicTV airs the vespers at 8pm. At 3:30am live on June 29, EWTN airs the Holy Father’s Mass in St. Peter’s; CatholicTV airs the Mass at noon and 8pm.
