Christ Comes in History, Mystery and Majesty

EWTN From the chapel of his private residence in St. Patrick’s Rectory, Cardinal Timothy Dolan shares his thoughts on the season of Advent. Re-airing on Fridays at 5:30pm.

 

SUNDAY, Dec. 2, 11am

Advent at Ephesus

EWTN This new special shows how the Benedictine Sisters of Mary, Queen of Apostles turned their Priory of Our Lady of Ephesus in Kansas City, Mo., into a recording studio to create an album of sacred music. The sisters, who have a retreat center for priests, daily pray and sacrifice for priests. Re-airing at 4am and 10pm Wednesday, Dec. 5; 6pm Wednesday, Dec. 12; and 9am Saturday, Dec. 15.

 

SUNDAY, Dec. 2, 8pm

Lidia Celebrates America: Holiday Tables and Traditions

PBS Celebrity chef Lidia Matticchio Bastianich creates a Christmas Eve Italian "feast of the seven fishes"; enjoys Christmas tamales and desserts in Texas; celebrates Chinese New Year in San Francisco; and visits a Passover seder. A re-airing.

THURSDAY, Dec. 6, 5pm

Nicholas: The Boy Who Became Santa

EWTN This 30-minute animated special tells the fact-based story of St. Nicholas of Myra from his boyhood on, focusing on his holy desire to bring gifts to those in trouble, especially the priceless gift of Jesus.

SATURDAY, Dec. 8, live

Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception

EWTN At 8am, the Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word celebrate Mass in Irondale, Ala. At 10am, Pope Benedict XVI pays homage to the Blessed Mother at Rome’s Spanish Steps (re-airs at 6pm). At noon is Mass in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington.

SATURDAY, Dec. 8, 8pm

Duns Scotus

EWTN The inspiring true story of Duns Scotus, the great 13th-century Franciscan theologian who defended Our Lady’s Immaculate Conception. Filmed in beautiful medieval monasteries throughout Europe. Re-airing Dec. 9 at 1:30pm.
