Canonizations of Kateri Tekakwitha, Marianne Cope and Others

EWTN Pope Benedict XVI will canonize the "Lily of the Mohawks," Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha (1656-1680) and Germany-born Mother Marianne Cope (orig. Koob; 1838-1918), a Franciscan sister who ministered to leprosy patients and St. Damien de Veuster on Molokai, Hawaii, among several others. Re-airs at 11am.

Holy Land Rosary

EWTN Jesuit Father Mitch Pacwa prays the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary at the sites where they took place. He then cites Scripture as he discusses each mystery.

Final Presidential Debate

MAJOR NETWORKS Foreign policy will be the subject matter, and Bob Schieffer of CBS will be the moderator as Republican challenger Mitt Romney and Democrat incumbent President Barack Obama square off.

TUESDAY, Oct. 23, 8pm

Cuban Missile Crisis’ 50th Anniversary

PBS At 8pm, the new special Three Men Go to War examines the roles of President John F. Kennedy, Soviet dictator Nikita Khrushchev and Cuban tyrant Fidel Castro in the nuclear crisis of October 1962. At 9pm, Secrets of the Dead: The Man Who Saved the World tells the story of Vasili Arkhipov (1926-1998), a Soviet submarine officer who stopped the launching of a nuclear-tipped torpedo at a U.S. ship.

The World Series, Game One

FOX "You can’t lose if you win," Larry Berra once said, sounding like his father, New York Yankees Hall of Fame catcher Yogi Berra, author of many a similar sly witticism. Winning is certainly the goal in this 108th duel between the top baseball squads of the National and American Leagues, a best-of-seven-games series. Teams not yet set at press time.

Closing Mass for the Synod of Bishops

EWTN Pope Benedict XVI will celebrate the closing Mass for the Synod of Bishops on the New Evangelization. Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los Angeles is the only American among the 35 synod fathers for the assembly’s meetings in Rome. The encore presentation will air at 11am.

Catholic Voting

EWTN Thomas McKenna, founder and president of Catholic Action for Faith and Family, interviews Cardinal Raymond Burke, who encourages voters to select candidates using Catholic moral principles. A re-airing. Also re-airing at 6:30pm Monday, Oct. 29.

 

THURSDAY-FRIDAY, Nov. 1-2, live and various

All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days

EWTN At 8am Thursday, the Mass of All Saints will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel in Irondale, Ala. (re-airs at 6:30pm); at noon is Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington (re-airs at midnight). In addition, on Thursday, specials on various saints, some well known and some not so well known, will air throughout the day. At 8am Friday will be the Mass of All Souls in Irondale (re-airs at noon, 6:30pm and midnight).
