TNT, CBS On TNT (11am-2pm) and CBS (2-7pm), top golfers compete at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis., in the final round of the 92nd championship of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America.

Solemn Mass of the Assumption

EWTN On Nov. 1, 1950, Pope Pius XII declared it a dogma given by God to the Catholic Church that “Mary, the immaculate, perpetually virgin Mother of God, after the completion of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into the glory of heaven.” Mass for this beautiful holy day is celebrated at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.

EWTN Jesuit Father Mitch Pacwa’s guest is Archbishop Raymond Burke, formerly bishop of La Crosse, Wis., and archbishop of St. Louis, who heads the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, the Church’s highest judicial body.

Egyptian Temples

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNEL Begun in 1960, the UNESCO Rescue Campaign relocated 22 ancient Egyptian temples and monuments to save them from eventual flooding when President Gamal Abdel Nasser’s Aswan Dam project (1960-1976) in Nubia, southern Egypt, would back up the Nile’s waters and create Lake Nasser.

HISTORY At 9pm, “Logging Tech” dissects the logging industry. At 9:30pm, “Mackinac Bridge” recounts the epic construction of the span between upper and lower Michigan.

PBS Tonight’s subjects are a Jackie Robinson-related baseball scorecard, a Modoc Indian woven basket, and a radio drama script endorsed by FBI head J. Edgar Hoover.

Jefferson

HISTORY This new two-hour documentary profiles Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826), author of the Declaration of Independence and the third president of the United States, examining contradictions such as his writing “all men are created equal” while owning slaves.


WEDNESDAY, Aug. 25, 8pm

Great Performances: Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert 2010

PBS In the gardens of Vienna’s Imperial Schönbrunn Palace, guest Franz Welser-Möst will conduct the Philharmonic in John Williams’ theme from “Star Wars,” Johann Strauss’ “Viennese Spirit Waltz,” Josef Strauss’ “Off on Holiday! Quick Polka” and Holst’s “The Planets.” Yefim Bronfman will perform Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
