Major League Legends: Ted Williams

SMITHSONIAN CHANNEL Most would rank Hall of Famer Ted Williams (1918-2002) as one of the top five hitters among the major leagues’ 18,456 ballplayers, 1876-2015. A left fielder for the Boston Red Sox, 1939-1942 and 1946-1960, he served with the U.S. Navy and Marines in World War II and was a Marine fighter pilot in the Korean War.

At noon on Good Friday, Pope Francis will preside at the Solemn Celebration of the Lord’s Passion. Re-airs midnight Saturday. At 3pm, the Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion will take place at the National Shrine. At 8pm, Pope Francis will preside at the Stations of the Cross at the Colosseum in Rome. Re-airs 3am Saturday. At 3:30pm Holy Saturday, the Holy Father will celebrate the Easter Vigil Mass. At 8pm, the Solemn Easter Vigil Mass will take place at the Basilica of the National Shrine.
