Remembered Earth: New Mexico’s High Desert

PBS Kiowa-Cherokee-Anglo poet and Pulitzer-winning novelist N. Scott Momaday (b. 1934) travels the majestic landscapes in and around El Malpais National Monument near Grants, N.M. A re-airing from 2006.

EWTN At 9pm Fridays (re-airs 2am Saturdays), in Catholicism on Campus: Philosophy and the Search for Wisdom, Msgr. Stuart Swetland explains philosophy’s place in the Church. At 5:30pm Sundays (re-airs 5am Fridays), in Eucharistic Journey With Pope Benedict XVI, Sister Joan Noreen discusses Pope Benedict XVI’s writings. At 1:30pm Thursdays (re-airs 5:30am Fridays), in Prophesy in Song, Frances Hogan prays the Psalms. At 5pm Sundays (re-airs 5:30am Tuesdays), in Speaking of Saints, Susan Conroy tells stories of Blessed Mother Teresa. At 6pm Mondays (re-airs 10:30am Fridays), The Twelve Promises of the Sacred Heart relates the promises Jesus gave to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647-1690) for souls devoted to his Sacred Heart.

Classroom: Honor Deferred

HISTORY Re-enactments portray the extraordinary heroism in combat of seven black Americans in World War II who were awarded the Medal of Honor belatedly in 1997. The only surviving recipient, Vernon Baker (1919-2010), had lived at Father Flanagan’s Boys’ Town. Advisory: TV-PG.


MONDAY, Feb. 28, 9pm

American Experience: Triangle Fire

PBS A century ago, on March 25, 1911, a fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in New York City’s Greenwich Village killed 146 workers, most of them young immigrant women on the building’s ninth floor, whose escape door was locked. The tragedy brought about strong workplace-safety laws.

Dog Whisperer

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNEL Host Cesar Millan teaches third-grader Josh how to calm down his first dog, Spike, a Siberian husky. Millan also tells Josh and his parents to give Spike time to run, which all huskies need.


WEDNESDAY, March 9, live and re-air

Ash Wednesday

EWTN, CATHOLICTV At 10:30am (re-airs 6pm), EWTN will televise Pope Benedict XVI’s penitential procession from the Basilica of San Anselmo to the Basilica of Santa Sabina and his blessing of ashes and celebration of Mass. CatholicTV will air the services at noon and 8pm.
