51st International Eucharistic Congress

EWTN “Christ in you, our hope of glory,” from Colossians 1:27, is the theme of this gathering in Cebu. The bishops of the Philippines intend the Congress to foster devotion to the Eucharist and to prepare for 1521, the 500th anniversary of the bringing of Catholicism to their land. At 3am, live, Sunday, Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, the papal legate, will celebrate the Opening Mass. (Re-airs at 5pm.) At 5pm daily, tape-delayed, Catechesis with be featured with Archbishop Miguel Cabrejos Vidarte (Monday), Bishop Robert Barron of Los Angeles (Tuesday), Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil (Wednesday), Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle (Thursday), Cardinal John Onaiyeken (Friday) and Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York (Saturday). PBS Spanish-speaking immigrant mothers tell how they were coerced into signing English-language sterilization consent forms while in labor at Los Angeles County-USC Hospital in the late 1960s and the 1970s. Aided by feminists, the mothers filed a federal class-action lawsuit. In 1978, a judge ruled against them, but the case prompted essential reforms.
