Today’s parents are more focused than their own parents were on making sure their children “reach their full potential.” For many parents, this means more rules and guidelines, but “taking back parenting” hasn’t alienated the kids. This is according to the Yankelovich marketing consultancy, which found that 58% of parents with kids under 18 say they’re stricter than their peers are. Yet nearly 3 of 4 (72%) say “My children and I have a lot more in common than I did with my parents when I was a child.” And that same proportion agree that “I’m closer to my kids than most other people are.”
