The adage “Cleanliness is next to godliness” is not in the Bible. In fact, it’s widely attributed to a sermon given in the 18th century by John Wesley, founder of the Methodist branch of Protestantism. Nevertheless, it’s a point worth pondering in light of a new study suggesting that light housework, when done regularly, reduces stress and improves mental health. After all, it’s exercise. For maximum benefit, pray while you clean house.
