Power of Prayer

Share
by Father Owen Kearns, Publisher, Register correspondent Tuesday, Jun 26, 2007 8:00 AM Comment

It is no gimmick when we ask for prayers in our annual fund drive (see ad, facing page).

We are well aware that we would not be able to do what we do without your prayers. What we have done is quite a bit: In the 10 years I have been involved with the Register, its circulation has risen dramatically, and it has had an incalculable affect on souls. This is clearly an enterprise that God wants — and that God wants us to work for.

We strive to be 100% true to the magisterium of the Church. We want to be totally in step with the Church, neither ahead nor behind, when that is easy and when it is hard. We feel that responsibility very heavily. We want to do nothing that compromises the Church, intentionally or unintentionally.

That takes attention and hard work — but most of all, it takes prayer.

I always remind people to pray for the Register, because without prayer, any money we spend would ultimately be a waste.

If it’s true that our call for prayers is no gimmick, it’s also true that our call for financial help is no gimmick either. It costs a lot to bring you the high-quality, far-ranging Catholic weekly you have come to expect.

You may already be sacrificing just to pay the subscription price — or you may already have joined our annual fund drive. If so, thank you. You have certainly done your part, and no more should be expected of you.

If you have not joined our annual fund drive, and if you are on the look-out for new ways to spend your donation dollars to further the concerns of the Church, please consider a contribution. But in either case, don’t stop praying for us! Pray that we will be as true to God’s will as possible, so that those we reach will be properly served.
