NFL Star Speaks for Life

Facts of Life

Catholic former Baltimore Ravens’ player Matt Birk stands up for life.

Birk, now the NFL’s director of football development, will be one of the speakers at the 2016 March for Life in Washington.

In 2013, Birk did not visit the White House with his team over the issue of abortion.

“I wasn’t there,” Birk said at the time. “I would say this: I would say that I have great respect for the office of the presidency, but about five or six weeks ago, our president made a comment in a speech and he said, ‘God bless Planned Parenthood.’

“Planned Parenthood performs about 330,000 abortions a year. I am Catholic, I am active in the pro-life movement, and I just felt like I couldn’t deal with that. I couldn’t endorse that in any way.”

“We are delighted to have Matt Birk speak at the March for Life this year,” Jeanne Mancini, the president of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund, told CNS News. “His experience and personal story are inspiring, and on top of that, he’s a great speaker.”
