Momentum

Publisher's Note

As much as secular society tries to deny it, the United States is becoming more pro-life every year, thanks in part to advances in medical technology and in education. A Gallup poll from May 2013 showed that 58% of Americans oppose abortion in all or most circumstances.

Our stories on pages 1 and 2 in this issue beautifully illustrate the breadth of the pro-life movement, as we prepare to mark the 41st anniversary of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, the misguided Supreme Court decisions that legalized abortion in the United States. Once again, the Register and EWTN will be on hand to chronicle the events around the country, bringing coverage of the March for Life in Washington and the related events in your states to those of you who cannot attend in person.

It is essential for all of us to continue this battle against this objective evil. Texas advanced the cause of life last year with its important pro-life legislation. More and more, abortion facilities are shutting down because of good people doing good.

As Pope Francis says in Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel): "The defense of unborn life is closely linked to the defense of each and every other human right. It involves the conviction that a human being is always sacred and inviolable, in any situation and at every stage of development."

May each of us live 2014 with this conviction, as we decisively recommit ourselves to defending all human life as an incomparable gift from our loving Creator.

God bless you!
