Marry With a Mission

Cardinal O'Malley's advice on choosing a spouse.

During a catechesis talk at World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro, Cardinal Sean O’Malley of Boston encouraged young people to be selective when choosing a spouse.

"Don’t marry someone because they’re rich or you share the same hobbies," he said. "Marry someone because you share the same sense of mission" in faith.

He also told young people to not give into the "hook-up culture" and cohabitation.

"That’s just a train wreck waiting to happen," he said. "When you’re looking for a spouse, pray to the Holy Spirit to find the right person and pray to be the right person."
