John Paul’s Feast

For many of us, there are two dates that are the anniversary of the death of Pope John Paul II. The first is April 2, and the second is the vigil of the feast of Divine Mercy.

On page one, you will find the seemingly miraculous recovery of a gunshot wound victim whose case was placed in the late Holy Father’s hands early on. The Holy Father, of course, survived a gunshot wound that many say should have been fatal. You will also find information, in our In Person interview, on Pope Benedict XVI’s own devotion to Divine Mercy. If this devotion, which originated with a Polish mystic, ever seemed like a private interest of the Polish Pope, the current Holy Father has made its universality clear.

Divine Mercy entails three things: seeking forgiveness of God, offering forgiveness to others, and spreading the message of mercy. All of those who participated in our matching fund campaign at the end of Lent have certainly qualified as “spreading the message.”
