Facts of Life

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness," states the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.

John Adams, the second president of the United States, wrote to his wife, Abigail, about Independence Day in July 1776, noting that it should be full of thanksgiving and faith: "It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty."

Catholics can do so as they commemorate the conclusion of the third annual "Fortnight for Freedom" (Fortnight4Freedom.org).
