Fundraising Cardinals

THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA, April 3 — You might call it a gathering of cardinal significance for Catholic education.

America’s Catholic cardinals will assemble April 27 in Las Vegas at the 18th American Cardinals Dinner. Bishop Joseph Pepe of Las Vegas and Vincentian Father David O’Connell, president of The Catholic University of America, will co-host the dinner, which will raise funds for scholarships at The Catholic University of America.

Archbishop Pietro Sambi, apostolic nuncio to the United States, Archbishop Donald Wuerl of Washington and Bishop William Lori of Bridgeport, Conn., president of the CUA Board of Trustees, will also attend the dinner.

Homecoming

THE WASHINGTON POST, March 31 — Actor Jon Voight recently made his first visit to The Catholic University of America since he graduated in 1960. During his visit, the Post reported, Voight “checked out his Catholic U. legacy — a cardinal (the school’s mascot) that he painted on the floor of the old basketball gym. That chunk of floor is now displayed in the school’s Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center.”

BYU to Notre Dame

UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME, March 22 — Notre Dame has received a major gift of Catholic theology tomes from an unlikely donor: Brigham Young University.

The Mormon college recently donated nearly 7,000 books on Catholic theology to Notre Dame’s Hesburgh Library. “This is certainly the largest gift donation we’ve gotten in theology in my time here,” said Alan Krieger, Notre Dame’s librarian. “It’s a very welcome addition to our collection.”
