Lenten Programs

EWTN Fathers of Mercy Superior General Father William Casey gives a six-week Lenten Parish Mission at 10 a.m. Sundays, March 1 - April 3 (re-airs 2 p.m. Tuesdays, 4 a.m. Fridays). Father Paul Chavasse, postulator for the cause of Cardinal Newman, offers Lenten Reflections at 5 a.m. Sundays, March 1 - April 3 (re-airs 5:30 p.m. Fridays). Starting March 7, Archbishop Timothy Dolan of Milwaukee provides six weeks of reflections in his St. Peter: Icon for Lent at 4 p.m. Saturdays.

EWTN New shows this spring will include art historian Elizabeth Lev’s Catholic Canvas: The Vatican Collection at 5 p.m. Sundays; Ralph Martin’s The Fulfillment of All Desire at 10:30 p.m. Thursdays; Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers’ Made in His Image: Family Life Today at 11 a.m. Sundays, 6 p.m. Fridays; Greg and Julie Alexander’s Marriage Works in Christ: Broken and Blessed at 11:30 p.m. Wednesdays; and Joseph Pearce’s The Quest for Shakespeare at 11 a.m. Mondays, 6 p.m. Wednesdays, 11:30 p.m. Fridays. The existing series Sunday Night Live With Father Benedict Groeschel will study “The Theology of Our Lord Jesus Christ.” (7 p.m.)

March Specials

PBS Singer-actress Fiona Kennedy’s Highland Heartbeat has traditional and recent songs backed by the Scottish Festival Orchestra, plus landscape footage of Scotland. The Richard Abel Elegancia features pianist Abel, Irish tenor Ronan Tynan, an orchestra, and dancing couples in 18th-century costume. In The Metropolitan Opera Opening Night Gala, soprano Renee Fleming performs favorite opera roles of hers. In the new The Welk Stars: Through the Years, Mary Lou Metzger shows numbers from Catholic bandleader Lawrence Welk’s 1950s-1970s TV hit series. Check local listings.
