An Urgent Message from Fr. Owen Kearns LC, Publisher
What we deliver with our journalism, we cannot deliver without your generosity.
The National Catholic Register needs your help. Revenue from subscriptions and advertising can't keep up with the rising cost of payroll, printing, postage and other expenses. We must rely on donations to make up the difference. To continue our hard-hitting investigative reporting, we need your financial support. Please donate today.

There was a
lot of evidence that the mainstream media was very much in favor of one
candidate in the last election.
• A Project in Excellence in Journalism study found that media coverage of
John McCain was “heavily unfavorable” — more than three times as negative as
the portrayal of Barack Obama.
• TheWashington
Post’s ombudsman admitted that the paper’s op-ed page ran 32
laudatory pieces about Obama vs. 13 on McCain and that stories and photos about
Obama in the news pages outnumbered those devoted to McCain.
• Late-night comedians,
apparently, were no different, telling jokes at McCain’s expense more than
twice as often as they told jokes at Obama’s expense.
• But the biggest bias is the bias
that decides pro-life and pro-marriage arguments should get practically no
coverage at all.
With the media and all three
branches of government now on the same side, organizations that are on the side
of truth instead of political power are more needed than ever. Pray that the
Register and other alternative media will get the support we need to carry on
America’s tradition of a free and independent press.
