What could be
more exciting than a papal event attended by thousands and watched by millions?
Two papal events attended by thousands and watched by millions —
in the same year.
First Benedict won the hearts of
Americans with his message of hope. Now he hopes for a new Pentecost at World
Youth Day, to make the world’s youth become joyful witnesses of Christ.
For a Catholic newspaper that’s
joyfully faithful to the Pope and magisterium, this week’s spiritual revival in
Sydney represents both an exhilarating opportunity and a daunting challenge.
Opportunity: The Catholic Church has
the chance to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to more people at once than at
any other single venue.
Challenge: The Register must find
the funds to cover the extended event firsthand.
Once again we’ve sent our senior
writer, Tim Drake, on location to report on the high points and
behind-the-scenes moments. And once again he’ll be filing his exclusive stories
and sharing his vivid notes not only in the Register but also at our blog
Pope2008.com. Meanwhile, as we did for Benedict’s trip to America last spring,
we’ll provide a live feed from EWTN on the top of the blog.
Naturally, none of this comes free.
So far, generous readers have sponsored 65 out of the 100 days of Tim Drake’s
coverage. Please sponsor a day ($198) or a week ($1,386). Send donations to our
director of fundraising, Michael Lambert, at 432 Washington Ave., North Haven
CT 06473. Or contact him at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). God bless!
