The National Catholic Register Launches Radio News Program
Register Radio airs weekly on EWTN Global Catholic Radio Network
Irondale, AL (EWTN) — The National Catholic Register (NCRegister.com), a long-standing national biweekly newspaper, announces the launch of its first-ever radio program, Register Radio.
“Register Radio will possess the same vibrancy and incisiveness to media coverage surrounding the Catholic faith that the Register brings to its print and electronic editions,” says managing editor Tom Wehner. “It’s a natural outgrowth of what we do already.”
Register Radio, which will air its first episode on September 2, is hosted by Thom Price, director of programming and production for EWTN Radio, and the Register’s senior writer Tim Drake.
Tim Drake is no stranger to this medium. He has appeared on Vatican Radio, EWTN, Fox News, Ave Maria Radio, and Relevant Radio.
Register Radio airs on Fridays at 2 p.m., with encores at 7 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. on Sundays (all times eastern). The show runs for 30 minutes and will include interviews with the writers, bloggers and newsmakers behind the prominent news stories featured in the Register and on NCRegister.com.
Register Radio will also cover the news stories affecting the Church and the world, entertainment reviews, interviews with the Register’s leading bloggers and listener feedback.
“Another feature we’re excited about is Media Watch, where we’ll shine the light of truth on how the media is reporting on events surrounding the Catholic Church. As the host, I’m excited about bringing the Register’s distinctive voice to new and different audiences,” says Drake.
Register Radio — with EWTN’s Global Catholic Radio Network and 170 U.S. affiliates — will reach more than 103 million potential listeners via AM and FM and more than 13 million potential listeners via SiriusXM Satellite Radio in the U.S. and Canada.
“Register Radio is an exciting marriage of two of EWTN’s media outlets: EWTN Radio and the National Catholic Register. This weekly news program brings to bear the best of both in a highly informative, yet entertaining, format designed to help listeners find the truth among the headlines of the day,” said Doug Keck, EWTN’s executive vice president and chief operating officer.
Michael P. Warsaw, EWTN’s president and chief executive officer, and publisher of the National Catholic Register, is also pleased with the addition.
“EWTN has provided the Register with a platform for growth, and it is already flourishing. Our Lord is using his network to expand the reach of faithful Catholic journalism. This radio initiative is a tremendous opportunity to reach many more souls for Christ.”
EWTN Global Catholic Network, in its 30th year, is available in over 160 million television households in more than 140 countries and territories. With its direct broadcast satellite television and radio services, AM & FM radio networks, worldwide short-wave radio station, Internet website www.ewtn.com, electronic and print news services, and publishing arm, EWTN is the largest religious media network in the world.
