Mount Mercy College Executive Director for Mercy Mission and Identity
Reports to: The President
Summary of the Position: The Executive Director for Mercy Mission and Identity assists the President in promoting and enabling the vision of the College, its Catholic identity and its Mercy mission and heritage. The position has responsibility for designing, coordinating and assessing structures, programs, practices and celebrations that focus on Mount Mercy’s mission, vision, values and identity. The position requires collaboration with individuals and offices across the academic and administrative operation of the campus. This is an executive level, non-Cabinet, full-time administrative appointment. The Executive Director supervises the offices of campus ministry, the chaplaincy, volunteerism and music ministry. The appointee must be a faith-inspired individual who has a strong understanding and commitment to the heritage and educational mission of the Sisters of Mercy.
Duties and Tasks:
1. Lead the Office of Mission and Identity in developing and conducting programs that enhance Mount Mercy as a Catholic institution of higher learning in the Mercy tradition.
2. Supervise and evaluate the Director of Campus Ministry, who oversees the offices of the Chaplain, the Coordinator of Volunteerism and Service Learning, and Music Ministry.
3. Collaborate with the Conference of Mercy Higher Education and the mission officers of sister institutions in advancing the Mercy mission in the CMHE.
4. Support the Mission Integration Committee of the College as a participating member and develop a strategic agenda for enhancing mission and identity on campus.
5. Collaborate with the Office of Human Resources to ensure the candidate search process and new employee orientation process includes a response to the College’s mission and identity (“hiring for mission”).
6. Develop and direct orientation and on-going education programs on mission and identity for all College constituents including new trustees, faculty, staff, and students.
7. Manage a budget for the Office of Mission and Identity and oversee the budgets of supervised offices.
8. Provide collaborative leadership in developing diversity, sustainability and global awareness programs on campus.
9. Teach one course per year in a relevant and qualified academic field.
10. Collaborate with the College’s Advancement staff in seeking external grant funding and informing marketing initiatives for mission-related projects and activities.
11. Assist the President in maintaining strong relations with Sacred Heart Convent of Cedar Rapids and the West-Midwest Region of the Sisters of Mercy.
12. Perform other duties as assigned by the President.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Advanced degree from an accredited institution, at least at the Master’s degree level.
• Knowledge of and commitment to the Mercy educational mission and the Catholic intellectual tradition.
• Commitment and ability to articulate the traditions and values of the Sisters of Mercy.
• Ability to contribute to the overall management of the College through organizing and implementing programs that support mission leadership.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Experience in academic administration or its equivalent.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with multiple, diverse constituencies.
• Executive level vision and skills.
Expected Start Date: January 1, 2010 or later by mutual agreement.
