usually a tough week for the Register — the biggest week for the secular news
every four years is the slowest news week for us. That’s because we go to press
on Monday night, and polls open on Tuesday morning for Election Day.
But this year is different for two
reasons. First, because this week we are running a symposium on one of the
biggest news events this year: the economic crash. In our symposium, you’ll
find voices from all walks of life and political perspectives discussing what
moral failings led to the crisis.
Second, the Cardinal Newman
Society’s Center for Higher Education announces its poll results about Catholic
colleges in this issue. Read the details in the story on page one.
The implications of these stories
will be with us for a long time. So will the major story we can’t cover this
week. Find more on that one here next week.
