Pope Benedict XVI fell because he couldn’t find a light switch in his vacation room, Associated Press is reporting.

He didn’t cry for help, and he wanted to say Mass the next day. But handlers insisted he go to the hospital, says the report, citing Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi.

The incident happened at the mountain house in Les Combes, near the French border.

Previously, the Daily Blog reported that Pope Benedict XVI insisted on waiting his turn at the hospital.

We also wondered: Does this mean he’s using a tape recorder to write, as he once did?

“Doctors say a checkup Saturday on the 82-year-old Pope shows the fracture is healing well,” concludes the report. “Benedict flies back to the Rome area on Wednesday.”
