Vatican Radio: President Gives Abortion Commitment to Pope

President Obama arrives at the Vatican. (CNS/Reuters)

Vatican spokesman Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi told Vatican Radio:

In addition, Father Lombardi said ... the U.S. president “reiterated his commitment to reducing the incidence of abortion.”

Father Lombardi’s comments are another indication that the Pope and the president spoke frankly about abortion during their discussion. Catholic Americans can only hope that Obama’s commitment will translate into concrete pro-life policies at some point in the future, given that to date every abortion-related move he has made since becoming president has been in the opposite direction.
