The Congregation for the Clergy has announced the official program for a large international convention of priests. The meeting, to be held in Rome June 9-11, 2010, will conclude the Year for Priests that began June 19.

St. John Vianney Feast Day

Today marks the 150th anniversary of the death of St. John Vianney — the famous Curé of Ars.
The anniversary is especially significant, in light of Pope Benedict XVI’s decision to specifically link the Church’s current Year for Priests to this anniversary of St. John Vianney’s death and to highlight him as the model for the priests of today.

The Archbishop of Utrecht in the Netherlands has launched a global Twitter campaign for new vocations.
The initiative was inaugurated by FuturePriests.com on Friday to coincide with the start of the Year for Priests, with a call for prayer posted on Twitter by Archbishop Willem Jacobus Eijk.

Pope Benedict XVI today released a letter to priests, in proclamation of the Church’s Year of the Priest, which commences tomorrow.
The letter draws deeply on the priestly example of St. John Mary Vianney, France’s famous 19th-century “Curé of Ars.”

Year of the Priest Begins Friday

This Friday, June 19, begins the Year of the Priest, as announced by Pope Benedict XVI back in March. That means that for 10 days, between June 19 and 29, the Church is celebrating both the Year of St. Paul and the Year of the Priest.
