The White House disclosed over the weekend that President Barack Obama is to make a weeklong foreign tour in July that will include Russia, Italy and Ghana. However, noticeably missing from the list is the Vatican.

Second Womens Visitation

The Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has ordered a visitation of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR).
Late last year, a broader visitation of U.S. women’s religious institutes was ordered by the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.

Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli, president of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, sees both the promise and the problems of social networking.

Court OKs Vatican Lawsuit

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that a sexual abuse lawsuit in Oregon against the Vatican can proceed.
It’s the second such ruling in recent months by a U.S. court allowing a sexual-abuse lawsuit to proceed against the Vatican.

The Vatican annual retreat is now underway, running from March 1-7.
The retreat, on the theme of “The priest encounters Jesus and follows him,” is being attended by the Pope and the Roman Curia. It is being led by Cardinal Francis Arinze, prefect emeritus of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.

Nigerian Cardinal Francis Arinze will preach this year’s spiritual exercises at the Vatican’s Lenten retreat.
Cardinal Arinze retired earlier this year from his post as prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments.
