Galileo’s legacy continues to be rehabilitated by the Church.
On Sunday, a Mass was celebrated at the Vatican in memory of the 16th-century astronomer to mark the 445th anniversary of his birth, the Italian paper Corriere della Sera reported.

Today marks the 80th anniversary of the signing of the Lateran Accords.
Under the terms of the accords, the state of Italy formally recognized the founding of the independent city-state of the Vatican. The accords also specified the nature of the relationship between Italy and the Vatican City State, and compensated the Holy See for the loss of the papal states.

Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi, the Vatican’s chief spokesman, has acknowledged that improvements are required in how the Vatican publicizes its actions.

Contrary to many press reports, the Chief Rabbinate of Israel has not cut ties with the Vatican over the lifting of the excommunication of Bishop Richard Williamson.
The director general of the organization, Oded Wiener, sent a letter Jan. 27 to Cardinal Walter Kasper, president of the Vatican Commission for Religious Relations with Jews.

The Vatican is sending its two senior ecumenical officials to Sunday’s inauguration ceremony in Moscow of Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill.

A Vatican source has denied rumors that Rome has decided to create a personal prelature for members of the Traditional Anglican Communion.
Leaders of the Traditional Anglican Communion, an international group of disaffected Anglicans that claims to have more than 400,000 members, have been in discussions with Rome since late 2007 about entering the Church as a corporate body.
