CUA President Is Stepping Down

On Friday, Father David O’Connell, president of The Catholic University of America, announced that he will be stepping down as president in August 2010.
Father O’Connell has been president at CUA for 12 years. At age 42, Father O’Connell was elected 14th president of CUA in March 1998. He is currently the school’s second-longest-serving president.

Phelps Passes on Pope

Earlier reports that Olympic medalist Michael Phelps would be meeting with Pope Benedict XVI were premature.
According to The Associated Press, Phelps is skipping the meeting in order to rest before his final individual race of the world championships.

The Holy Father said today that his guardian angel failed to stop him from falling and breaking his wrist recently because God wanted to make him humbler.

Pope Benedict XVI fell because he couldn’t find a light switch in his vacation room, Associated Press is reporting.
He didn’t cry for help, and he wanted to say Mass the next day. But handlers insisted he go to the hospital, says the report, citing Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi.
The incident happened at the mountain house in Les Combes, near the French border.

Why did the Pope fall? The Pope’s spokesman told me today that “any illness has been ruled out, and the fall has rightly been described as ‘accidental.’ Whether he stumbled or slipped are particulars I cannot go into.”
In an earlier posting I mentioned that Benedict likes to dictate his thoughts into a recorder — I think it’s a holdover from his days as a university professor.
