National Right to Life ad.

’Fess up, Sen. Obama.

The National Right to Life Committee is demanding a public apology from the Democratic presidential candidate for accusing the pro-life group in August of “lying” about his voting record regarding “born-alive” legislation.

Such legislation mandates provision of medical care for babies who survive abortions.

In an extensively documented exposé posted on the... READ MORE

Pepperdine law professor Doug Kmiec has earned widespread criticism from prominent Catholics for claiming faithful Catholics can vote for Barack Obama.

Kmiec, who is backing Obama despite his 100% pro-abortion record, says such criticism is unjustified.

He might find it harder to dismiss the arguments of one other prominent Catholic: himself.

In this entry on his Catholic Key blog, Jack Smith... READ MORE

Catholics watching tonight’s presidential debate should pay close attention if the topic of health-care reform comes up.

Why?

Not just because Democratic candidate Sen. Barack Obama has made the issue a central campaign plank.

But Obama may also intend to use health-care reform as a vehicle to mandate abortion access, according to the Weekly Standard’s blog.

The blog cites comments Obama... READ MORE

“I very seldom get to see any television, but I did watch part of the political conventions, and for me the star... READ MORE

Last night’s vice-presidential debate between Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and U.S. Sen. Joe Biden contained little discussion of religion, or of life issues.

But, as Catholic blogger and Register correspondent Sheila Liaugminas notes, Democratic candidate Biden did hit the pro-abortion button in his closing remarks.

Asked to identify an issue where he had revised his beliefs, Biden cited his... READ MORE

Catholic actor Martin Sheen has recorded TV and radio ads opposing Washington state’s Initiative 1000 that seeks to legalize doctor-assisted suicide.

In the TV ad, Sheen says, “People who are ill need real medical care and compassion, not lethal drugs.”

In the radio ad, Sheen warns insurance companies might exploit legalized assisted suicide to avoid paying for palliative care for... READ MORE

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin campaigns Sept. 22. (AFP)

When vice-presidential nominees Sarah Palin and Joe Biden debate tonight in St. Louis, life issues could be prominent.

And in the run-up to the debate, the sharp contrast between Republican candidate Palin’s pro-life beliefs and Democratic candidate Biden’s pro-abortion voting record has been highlighted.

In a Sept. 29 interview with CBS news anchor Katie Couric, Palin said, “I am... READ MORE
